Biography

Bahar Taheri is an Iranian visual artist; she was born in Tehran in 1980. Currently, she is based in Montreal.  Though principally a painter, she has also produced artistic videos, mixed-media installations and performances throughout her career.  Thus far, she has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions in Iran, Germany, Austria, and Canada. Most recently, in 2018, her work was at the Centre des arts actuels Skol (Montreal, QC). Apart from her professional experience as an artist, painting teacher and curator, she has also participated as an artist-in-residence at the Salzburg Art Residency in Austria (2012) and at the Münster FAK Project in Germany (2013). She received a BFA (2005) and an MFA in painting (2009) from Tehran’s Soore Art University. Since her arrival in Canada, she has also undertaken a variety of additional training in order to expand her professional knowledge, including courses on engraving, lithography and 20^th Century Art History given at Atelier Circulaire, UQAM and Concordia University. In 2018, she was awarded two grants: Alliance-artiste in Visual Arts awarded by Montreal Intercultural Arts (MAI) and Démart-Mtl awarded by the Montreal Arts Council (CAM). Her works are in the collection of Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran and also several private collections. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) selected a work by Bahar Taheri to mark 20 years of Sharing the Museum Program(2019).

Biographie

Bahar Taheri est un artiste en arts visuels d’origine iranienne, elle est née à Téhéran en 1980. Actuellement, elle est installée à Montréal. Bahar travaille principalement comme peintre, mais au fil de sa carrière artistique, elle s’est exprimée par l’intermédiaire de différents médias comme la vidéographie, la performance et les installations mixtes. Elle a participé à des expositions solos et collectives. Par exemple, en Iran : Etemad Galerie, Téhéran 2014, en Europe : FAK Project, Munster, Allemagne 2013 et au Canada : Centre des arts actuels Skol, Montréal 2018, Galerie Laroche/Joncas 2020. Bahar détient un baccalauréat (obtenu en 2005) et une maîtrise en peinture (obtenue en 2009) de l’Université d’Art de Soore à Téhéran. Bahar a participé à deux résidences, Salzbourg en Autriche (2012), et le projet FAK a Münster en Allemagne (2013). Par ailleurs, elle s’est vue remettre en 2018 deux bourses : Alliance-artiste en arts visuels octroyée par Montréal arts interculturels (MAI) et DémART-Mtl accordée par le Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM). Ses œuvres sont dans la collection Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Musée d’art contemporain de Téhéran et aussi les plusieurs collections privées. Le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM) a sélectionné une œuvre de BaharTaheri pour marquer les 20 ans du Musée en Partage Programme (2019).
